I'm married to my frequent coauthor, Camil, since September 2000.
Alessandro (born on January 1, 2006) and Anna (born on April 4, 2008) are certainly our greatest achievements!
Whenever I am not working, which happens way too rarely, or playing with my children, my favourite occupations are:
- Travelling: I have been visiting Austria, Brazil, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Tunisia, USA (airports don't count!). Still, I would like to visit Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, and to enjoy the Hawaii sunshine...
- Photography: some photos taken during our trips are available on Flickr.
- Listening to classical music, especially Bach, Beethoven and Vivaldi, mostly violin and cello concertos, and playing piano. I do not despise rock and pop music, though, particularly Bon Jovi and Queen.
- Reading, especially math and computer science related books. Among my favourites:
- "The man who loved only numbers", by Paul Hoffman: the story of Paul Erdos and the search for mathematical truth
- "A beautiful mind", by Sylvia Nasar: the biography of John Nash
- "Proofs from THE BOOK", by Martin Aigner and Günter Ziegler: a book on the most elegant proofs of mathematical theorems in a broad range of fields.
Some quotes I like:
- Be less curious about people and more curious about ideas (Marie Curie)
- Silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute (Josh Billings)
- Person who say it cannot be done should not interrupt person doing it (Chinese proverb)
- Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change (Confucius)
- One of the greatest victories you can gain over someone is to beat him at politeness (Josh Billings)
- The best way to convince a fool that he is wrong is to let him have his own way (Josh Billings)
- Try to learn something about everything and everything about something (Thomas Huxley)
